Forest bathing in Sonoma County is all about going for a slow, meditative walk in the woods.

Forest bathing, or Shinrin-Yoku was initially created by the Japanese in the 1980s as a way for office workers to get back in touch with nature. Shinrin-Yoku translates to “forest medicine”, or the medicine of being in the forest.

Benefits

Many of us don’t know what it truly feels like to feel well. Forest bathing allows us to get back in touch with our bodies by slowing down and listening, rather than be distracted with all that’s going on in our lives.

  • Calms the sympathetic nervous system
  • Helps with taking you out of fight or flight
  • Healthy respiration
  • Mindfulness
  • Stress management

What to expect

Bring walking shoes and water. Leave your mobile phone in the car. This is an opportunity to completely and utterly unplug.

We will walk through the Guerneville woods under the redwood canopy. It’s quiet. It’s serene. Expect to feel calm and de-stressed.

Meditation comes in many forms, and we will be experiencing multiple variations. Your guide, Deacon Carpenter is an Ayurvedic Clinician who has been living in Sonoma County for 12 years. His philosophy for stress management is to get into nature and out of your head.

Extend your meditative experience in the woods with an add-on yoga class for you or your group.
